Sudipta Mohanty

I was able to get the extra edge over others in the candidate filtration process due to my prior experiences of internships at startups and other companies.

I am from the Howrah city of West Bengal. In my 10+2, I was a commerce student and had  Computer Science as an additional subject. Gradually during those two years, I developed an interest in Computer science, and later I went ahead and did a BCA (Bachelors of  Computer Applications) from Techno India Saltlake. I did get placed with a few MNCs and startups but I found the idea of completing my master's first and then starting my professional journey a better fit for myself. I recently completed my master's (MCA) from  SRM, Chennai. As a hobby, I love to paint a lot and prefer reading fictional books.

How did you get this job at Capgemini?

After a few days of being confused about whether I should join a startup or go ahead with Capgemini, I took the decision to go ahead with Capgemini. I think everyone should first join an MNC like Capgemini because it will really sharpen your skills and will make you ready to take on bigger roles for your career and later you either start your own startup or join any. The process was made simpler through our college campus placement portal. I remember there were 3 rounds (coding - aptitude - HR/ Technical/PI).  After one month I was called for onboarding and then after 3 months of training, I became a  full-time employee.

What kind of skills are required to get such a job in Capgemini?

IT is a huge domain from the inside and the importance of technical skills can’t be avoided.  As a fresher, I agree that you might lack industry-level technical skills but once into the industry or in the job, you must constantly grow your knowledge in your domain and the others. If your technical knowledge is not up to the mark you will face rejection in the interview, so the importance of technical skills can’t be avoided before your job and after you have the job in hand.

Tell us about your roles and responsibilities at Capgemini?

I am working as a senior analyst in the automation testing domain. I am a part of the US-based global project. I am also working on Java language and many other industry tools for this particular project and working to develop an android app for this project.

How has your experience been at Capgemini?

I am sure that it has been a great decision for me and life at Capgemini has been awesome.  I have made good use of my time and have been able to make good use of my access to Coursera for free from Capgemini which provides very costly certification for free once you complete the course. Also, the perks of working for Capgemini are amazing like pick and drop and many more.

What are your tips to crack high-paying jobs at large companies?

I was a mediocre candidate for many jobs, and I also did apply to many low-paying jobs.  Later I understood the importance of being skilled to crack better-paying jobs and worked on it. Until and unless you show up your energy to learn and grow your skills, how can you expect a better-paying job? I would disagree with your statement to some extent because India is full of IT jobs, and you just have to be skilled and deserving enough to get one.

How did internships help you in your career?

Each and every internship that I did play an important role in my placement. I was able to get the extra edge over others in the candidate filtration process due to my prior experiences of internships at startups and other companies. Internships helped me improve my interpersonal skills and approach to enhance my skills. So yes, as a college student if you aren’t doing internships, the road ahead may be difficult for you. The amount of extra growth outside the classroom takes place in your personal projects and internships. That is the reason everyone should really focus on getting good internships from platforms like Prosple,  college placement cells, etc.

What would you suggest to someone looking to get an internship or job at a company like Capgemini?

It's high time people in college or freshers understand the importance of doing good internships and diversifying their profile by having an on-hand experience so if they do want to grow in a particular domain, they have at least experienced its practicality in some sense,  hence experiences like internships can help you get that. Apart from that, have a positive attitude towards your rejections and work on the shortcomings to be a better fit for your dream internships and jobs.
